Terms of use

Last updated 15 October 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Carve Lab LLC ("we", "us") for using the Paddaro app and this website. By using Paddaro you accept them. If you don't, please don't use it.

1. Safety comes first, and it's on you

Paddling is dangerous. Water, weather and your own condition can change faster than any forecast. Paddaro's water grade, wind, current, water temperature, water quality and clothing suggestions are estimates from forecast models and public data, which can be wrong, late or missing. They are not a safety assessment.

  • Always judge conditions yourself before and during a paddle, and turn back when in doubt.
  • Wear a leash and carry a personal flotation device as local law requires.
  • Check official sources, such as National Weather Service warnings, posted advisories and dam operators, before you go.
  • Don't rely on your watch or phone to call for help on the water.

Paddaro is not a medical device. Heart rate and effort figures are for training, not for diagnosing or managing any health condition. Check with a doctor before starting hard training.

2. Who can use Paddaro

You must be at least 13, and old enough to agree to these terms where you live (or have a parent or guardian agree for you).

3. Your account

You sign in with Apple. Keep your devices secure, since anyone with your unlocked phone can see your sessions. You can delete your account at any time in the app. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk.

4. Your data

Your sessions and everything you add are yours. You give us permission to store, process and display them only as needed to run Paddaro for you, and, if you turn on "Help improve detection", to use your raw recordings to improve stroke detection. The privacy policy explains the details.

5. Measurements

Stroke counts, sides and the other numbers Paddaro works out are estimates. Some are labelled beta because they haven't been validated across many paddlers yet. How it measures explains each one.

6. Using Paddaro fairly

Don't misuse the service: no reverse engineering our servers, no automated scraping, no attempts to access other people's data, and no use that breaks the law.

7. Other services

Paddaro works with Apple Health and Strava. Those services have their own terms, and we aren't responsible for them. Paddaro is not affiliated with or endorsed by Apple, Strava or WHOOP.

8. Paid features

Paddaro is free. If we add a paid plan, it will be sold through the App Store, Apple's terms will apply to payment and refunds, and features that are free when you start using them won't be moved behind it.

9. Our software

We own the Paddaro app, website and methods. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app under these terms and Apple's standard licence for App Store apps.

10. No warranty

Paddaro is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be accurate, available or free of errors, or that a recording will never be lost.

11. Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for injury, loss or damage arising from paddling or from decisions made using Paddaro, or for indirect or consequential losses. Where liability can't be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US$50 if you paid nothing. Nothing here limits rights you have by law that can't be waived.

12. Changes and ending

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. You can stop using Paddaro and delete your account at any time. We may stop offering Paddaro, and if we do, we'll give you notice and a way to export your sessions first.

13. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
